NDIS information

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new way of providing funding for a range of assistive technology supports, including prosthetic and orthotic services, for eligible people under 65 years of age.

If you are under 65 years of age and receive orthotic and prosthetic limb services through EnableNSW or State Wide Equipment Program (SWEP) in Victoria via our Hunter or Albury Prosthetic and Orthotic Services, there will be some changes to your funding arrangements.

The following table provides a summary of these changes:

Program NDIS coverage
Aids and equipment programs including orthotics and footwear
  • People 65 years of age and over (currently or at the time of applying for assistance) will not be eligible for the NDIS. Nothing changes for you.
  • People under 65 years who access the state-based aids and equipment programs (through EnableNSW or SWEP in Victoria) may be eligible for the NDIS.
    • People under 65 years who access these programs and receive specialist disability supports will be transitioned to the NDIS between 2016 - 2019 in line with the phasing arrangements agreed between each State and the Australian Government.
    • People under 65 years who receive assistance through these programs and do not receive specialist disability services may be eligible for the NDIS. They should check their eligibility and apply as soon as the NDIS is available in their area.
Prosthetic limb services
  • People 65 years of age and over (currently or at the time of applying for assistance) will not be eligible for the NDIS. Nothing changes for you.
  • People under 65 years will be eligible and should apply as soon as the NDIS is available in their area.
  • State based programs will still provide interim (first) limbs for eligible people regardless of their age.
